Talk Story Session with Surf Filmmaker Taylor Steele

In partnership with Honolulu Museum of Art's annual Honolulu Surf Film Festival, the Surfjack presents a special “Talk Back” session with director Taylor Steele, exploring his career and the future of surf filmmaking.

Named one of surfing's “Ten Most Influential People” by Surfer, Taylor's two decades of experience and 25 award-winning films continue to challenge and redefine the ways we see, think about and experience the art of surfing. His production company Poor Specimen has launched the careers of some of surfing’s most influential figures and has played a role in the success of musicians such as Blink-182, Pennywise, and Jack Johnson.

His film Proximity, will premiere on July 1 of the Surf Film Festival.

Twenty years ago, Maui Taiko was formed by the descendants of Japanese immigrants in the hopes of perpetuating a centuries-old drumming tradition.

Now blossomed into a performance troupe that entertains thousands of residents and visitors on Maui annually, the group invites you to celebrate with them and their friends: Uneme Daiko (Koriyama, Japan), Marco Leinhard –Taikoza (New York), Nakayama & Maui Minyo Kai (Maui), and nationally acclaimed, San Jose Taiko.
